After School Program
Achiever Institute provides many opportunities for students to grow and develop. Our After School Program is designed to provide K-8 students with a comprehensive schedule that includes time for homework, enrichment classes, and outdoor play. Under the supervision of teachers and teaching assistant, students are expected not only to complete their school work but encouraged to work on uniquely curated Achiever+™ assignments.
We also offer a complete list of Focused Enrichment Courses that are included in our all-inclusive After School Program. Each course is taught by a highly qualified instructor who specializes in the topics covered. Our enrichment programs include Writing, Language Arts, Math, Chinese, Public Speaking, Music, Chess, and Art.

Focused Enrichment Courses
Writing
Class Description:
Students will learn to write clear and coherent sentences that develop a central idea. Their writing will show that they consider the audience and a purpose. Students will move through the stages of the writing process: prewriting, rough draft, revision, editing, and presenting. Class topics will include Journal Writing, Organizing Details, Use of Different Sources, Elements of a Story, Conclusions, and Transitions. Class work, drills, and homework are mainly derived from a workbook and will primarily focus on basic grammar, punctuation, sentence and paragraph formation, and simple essay formats in line with California state standards.

Class Description:
We believe that learning Chinese should be fun! Our students learn the Chinese Language and culture through fun activities. Our emphasis is on both the spoken language and written language.

Public Speaking
Class Description:
This series is designed for students to gain confidence with speaking and presenting their ideas in public. In a small, supportive environment and through fun activities, our students will learn effective communication skills and grow into strong public speakers. Students will gain confidence in speaking in front of an audience, learn how to format an outline , learn different styles of delivery, learn tournament style speaking, and gain knowledge about expository, impromptu and persuasive speech.

Young Musicians
Class Description:
This course offers a great introduction to music for young students. The course covers the basics to appreciating and understanding music such as listening, tempo, and tune. Some of the main concepts introduced in this course include rhythm, percussion, dancing, singing, and note reading.

Music Foundation
Class Description:
This course offers a comprehensive look into music and introduces students to playing the keyboard. The course aims to develop an appreciation of music and build a strong foundation in piano.

Math
Class Description:
At Achiever Institute, we offer three math classes: GATE, general mathematics, and private tutoring for the SAT. Students are placed into a class based on their grade level and performance on a math assessment. The GATE class helps students prepare for their GATE programs at school. Our math classes are focused on helping students understand math concepts and apply the concepts in challenging situations. We strive to offer close teacher-to-student interaction and focus less on solving a mindless number of problems during class time.

Chess
Class Description:
The chess course will include an instructional period where students will analyze classic chess games. Each meeting of the class will also include a rated chess tournament and the opportunity for students to analyze their own games.

Art
Class Description:
Our art class for K-8 students offers a great creative outlet for students who want to explore their artistic talents. Students will learn basic painting and drawing skills, color sense, composition, tonality, and proportion. They will also be given the opportunity to explore various mediums: Watercolor, calligraphy, chinese painting, pastels, and color pencil. Through the art class, students will have a chance to explore and express their artistic and creative thoughts under the guidance of our experienced instructor.

Speech Course
Class Description:
Public Speaking (Grades 3-4): Students will gain confidence in speaking in front of an audience, learn how to format an outline , learn different styles of delivery, learn tournament style speaking, and gain knowledge about expository, impromptu and persuasive speech.
Debate(Grades 5-6): Students will learn the basics of argumentation, learn how to create a case, gain knowledge on timed debates, learn different formats of argumentation, learn how to cross-examine, learn how to research, and create cases for practice rounds.
Speech & Debate (Grades 7-8): Students will learn how to craft tournament style outlines, learn different speech and debate terminology, learn high level researching, learn critical thinking skills, learn timed debates, and learn about current events and issues.
Public Speaking (Grades 3-4): Students will gain confidence in speaking in front of an audience, learn how to format an outline , learn different styles of delivery, learn tournament style speaking, and gain knowledge about expository, impromptu and persuasive speech.

Private Piano Lessons
Class Description:
Through our private music lessons, we strive to give students of all ages the opportunity to enjoy and fall in love with music. We cater our teaching program and methods to each student’s unique needs. Our teacher bring years of teaching experience and master degrees in piano, music education, and flute. We hold student recitals twice a year, and we help students prepare for various types of music examinations. We offer elementary level, intermediate level, and advance level private lessons and can be scheduled on weekends or during After School hours.
