At Achiever Institute, we are extremely proud to provide our students with a highly qualified and experienced teaching staff. Our teachers bring their diverse backgrounds, wealth of knowledge, and talent for working with kids to create an exciting learning environment for all of our students.

  • Ms. Cathy Yang: Program Director

    Teacher Background: Cathy is a certified music teacher of MTAC (Music Teacher Association of California) and ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Association). She received her Bachelor’s degree in Flute and Piano in Taiwan and her Masters of Fine Arts in Musical Performance in the US. She was a flute and piano teacher at Nota Music World, a music docent at James Leitch Elementary School, and an early childhood music teacher at Jai’s Montessori. She is currently a Flutist in the professional flute ensemble, the Magic Flute Choir of San Mateo. Cathy has been teaching music for more than 10 years, and she believes in the happiness that playing music can bring.

    • Mr. Ming Shen Huo

      Teacher Background: Mr. Huo received his Bachelor’s degree from Huanain University majoring in oil painting. Since 1984, he has worked with many international movie and television production companies as a cartoon artist, including Black Cat Detective in China, The Three Kingdoms in Japan, The Mozart Orchestra in Spain, and Tarzan in the US. Since 2001, Mr. Huo has created comics for newspapers in China. He has held art exhibitions throughout the Bay Area showing different mediums, such as water color, oil painting, and Chinese calligraphy. He is also well known in Bay Area as a professional art judge for numerous art contests. Mr. Huo enjoys teaching young children, and he has a knack for making Chinese calligraphy easy to understand. His main goal is to help each of his students discover their own talent for art.

    • Mr. Tans Hylkema

      Teacher Background: Tans Hylkema has been a TCAMA chess coach for nearly a decade. His abilities allow him to be a fantastic coach for any level of student but his specialty is working with young beginners.

    • Professor Levy N.S. Zamora Jr.

      Teacher Background: Prof. Levy Nino S. Zamora Jr. hopes to help students become confident in public speaking and to help provide meaningful dialogue. He has over 19 years of speech, argumentation, improv, impromptu, creative interpretation, and creative/ expository writing experience. He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Communication and Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University, Spokane Washington. He is currently a speech and debate coach at Notre Dame High School and also teaches public speaking, interpersonal, small group and argumentation and debate both in enrichment and at a college level. He teaches at San Jose State University, De Anza College, and Foothill college. Some accomplishments as head coach: Octa-Finalists in Stanford University, 2nd Place Speaker overall in Stanford University, Semi-Finalists at Santa Clara University.

  • Ms. Raina Park

    Teacher Background: Raina Park has worked in her family’s nonprofit program with children on the autism spectrum since elementary school. She has almost 10 years of experience tutoring in various topics from Math to AP/SAT Prep. Her previous teaching position was as a teacher for the Salvation Army focusing on elementary school education. She is currently pursuing a BA in English and Rhetoric at UC Berkeley. She hopes to continue working in the education field in the future and looks forward to working with and teaching the kids at Achiever Institute.

  • Ms. Yu-Chi Tung

    Teacher Background: Ms. Tung graduated from Tamkang University in Taiwan, with a BA in Chinese Language and Literature. After she came to US, she received her Early Childhood Education degree from Ohlone College. She has been teaching in elementary schools since 1980, and she has been teaching Chinese at Fremont Chinese School for over 18 years. Ms. Tung is also a Para Educator for the Fremont Unified School District. Ms. Tung believes Chinese learning should be fun and useful. She likes to use games, story-telling, drawing and singing in her Chinese classes. She specializes in teaching both simplified and traditional Chinese, so students become comfortable reading and writing in both standards.
